Review of How to Profit from Lean Advertising: How to Profit from Lean Advertising is an article written by Thales Teixeira to examine and explain the concept of lean advertising and how philosophies of this concept are enabling small marketing budgets to obtain value of big brands. Generally, lean procedures, philosophies, and methodologies are slowly becoming common aspects of advertising for both small and large companies. The emergence of leaning advertising as an important part of modern marketing is influenced by the ongoing spread of lean thinking. Actually, lean advertising is not only a procedure or methodology but also a philosophy that has transformed contemporary advertising methods. As a result of its widespread growth, small, medium, and large companies are faced with the need to adopt lean advertising. In his article, Teixeira begins by examining how the footwear industry has conventionally been characterized with memorable advertising to an extent that major brands have spent millions of dollars in creating spectacular TV advertisements. Some of the major brands mentioned in the article are Reebok and Nike that have spent huge amounts of money in hiring advertising agencies and signing athlete-endorsers. He proceeds to examine how most of the big brands are using online mechanisms in advertising their products through shooting videos and sharing them on YouTube. Raw rubber from Malaysia is delivered to the factory in ââ¬Ëbalesââ¬â¢ Free Essays
During the time the way squash balls manufactured has developed into a highly sophisticated process. Here is investigated how balls are made. To begin with, raw rubber from Malaysia is delivered to the factory in ââ¬Ëbalesââ¬â¢ of about 25kg ââ¬â sufficient to make about 1,200 balls. We will write a custom essay sample on Raw rubber from Malaysia is delivered to the factory in ââ¬Ëbalesââ¬â¢ or any similar topic only for you Order Now In its natural state rubber is very stiff and difficult to work, so it is first ââ¬Ëmasticatedââ¬â¢ to a softer consistency. A variety of natural and synthetic materials and powders are then mixed with the rubber to give it the required combination of strength, resilience, and colour as well as to enable it to cure (or ââ¬Ëvulcaniseââ¬â¢) later in the process. The manufacturerââ¬â¢s ââ¬Ërecipeââ¬â¢ is a no less closely guarded secret than that of Coca Cola, and different combinations of ingredients (as many as 15 are used, including polymers, fillers, vulcanising agents, processing aids, and reinforcing materials) produce fast (blue dot), medium (red dot), slow (white dot), and super slow (yellow dot) balls. The current WSF Specification for the Standard Yellow Dot Championship Squash Ball determines the permitted diameter, weight, stiffness, seam strength and rebound resilience of the championship ball. No specifications are set for other types of ball, ââ¬Å"which may be used by players of greater of lesser ability or in court conditions which are hotter or colder than those used to determine the yellow dot specificationâ⬠. (http://www. squashplayer. co. uk) Thus, we donââ¬â¢t have any exact data (parameters) for red and blue balls. We only can use data available for yellow ball and modify the possible parameters that red and blue balls may have. Out of all specifications of a ball we are interested in its weight and rebound resilience. Rebound resilience is a measurement of the height a ball bounces off a hard surface. The data given in the table above mean that if one drops ball from a height of 100 centimetres (1 meter) onto a concrete floor then at 23oC the yellow balls must rebound at 12 centimetres; at 45oC between 26 and 33 centimetres. At 23oC the red ball must rebounds at 15 centimetres; at 45oC between 33 and 36 centimetres. At 23oC the blue ball must rebound at 17 centimetres; at 45oC between 36 and 38 centimetres. For our study we will take that if one drops ball from a height of 1 meter, then at 23oC the red ball must rebound at 15 centimeters; at 45oC ââ¬â at 34. 5 centimeters. at 23oC the blue ball must rebound at 17 centimeters; at 45oC ââ¬â at 37 centimeters. Ethics For Managers Wal Marts Sustainable Marketing
Question: Describe about the Ethics For Managers for Wal Marts Sustainable Marketing. Answer: 1. In our opinion, Wal-Mart is doing enough to become more sustainable. From our research studies, we found that Wal-Mart carries out diverse, sustainable activities, with the aim of fulfilling the needs of its consumers, employees and the society at large. Wal-Mart is one of the leading American retail stores offers quality products at low prices. It also aims to provide sustainable and safe food items(Barnett, 2014).It gives priority to their consumers by providing home delivery services, taking orders online and maintaining relations with their consumers by different means. For example Wal-Mart follows the tradition of listening, by communicating with their consumers through social media sites like Instagram, Facebook etc. Wal-Mart does take action to improve the overall quality of their products considering feedbacks of their consumers and associates posted on such websites. Wal-Mart considers its employees as an asset and so it provides them diverse facilities for up surging their satisfaction level. It supports its employees to develop their skills through training and skill development. We have found from our research that in last two years, Wal-Mart have invested almost $2.7 billion to provide training and education to their employees (Dodds, ,2015). It does provide scholarships to their associates for carrying out their studies while working. It aims at securing the future of their employees and so it provides the facilities like pension funds, insurance, retirement fund, medical compensation etc. Employees at Wal-Mart are trained to use latest technologies to make their work simple and agile. It does provide financial benefits to motivate and encourage their employees by offering discounts. For example Employees at Wal-Mart offers discount cards to their employees to get 10% discounts on fresh fruits and vegetables. Above all, it maintains healthy working culture in the firm by respecting their traditional values and cultures. Wal-Mart does consider its responsibility towards the society. It has adopted zero waste policy to make the efficient use of resources and to protect the environment. For example Nowadays Wal-Mart has started charging for one time use poly bags to encourage their consumers to make use of reusable bags. Studies showed that Wal-Mart was able to reduce poly bags waste up to 38% by the end of 2013. Wal-Mart follows three Rs of sustainability, i.e. Recycle, Repurpose, Reuse and Rethink, which helps in fulfilling its responsibility towards the environment. In addition to it, it does invest in diverse social welfare activities (Ghemawat. Mark, 2006). 2. Wal-Marts have to suffer due to several unethical activities such as encouraging child labor, avoiding pregnant women, poor working conditions, lower wages, etc. Wal-Marts creditability was affected by indulging in above unethical activities. About fifty percent of Wal-Mart products are produced in foreign countries to cutoff the costs of its products. It does encourage child labor in underdeveloped countries like Bangladesh for reducing its wage expenses. Apart from it, the company provides poor working conditions to their employees in underdeveloped countries. For example, in 2012 almost 111 people were killed in Wal-Mart factory due to fire, which have affected the credibility of the firm to a great extent. It was also found that it offers the monthly wage of just $37 to its employees in Bangladesh (Jensen, 2000). In Wal-Mart, gender discrimination is found among employees. And so lower wages are paid to women employees and pregnant women are fired for no reason. Many lawsuits have been filed by the women employees of Wal-Mart, but conditions havent changed yet. Research shows that 57% of its workforce are women, but still women are forced to work at lower wages. It also forces its employees to work during meal breaks, which is quite unethical. In addition to it, in 2012 the company has cut down health insurance for their part time workers. These types of activities have discouraged many women employees and reduced their work satisfaction level. In our research, we found that Wal-Mart have failed to fulfil its responsibility towards its employees working in Bangladesh. It havent even compensated to the relatives of the people killed due to fire in Tazreen factory of Bangladesh. Instead of compensating, Wal-Mart announced that Tazreen as an unauthorized brand of the company and they are not responsible for compensation. While researching, we also found that the Wal-Mart hasnt taken any action to improve the womens position in the company. Womens are still forced to work at lower wages and poor working conditions. Gender discrimination is also considered during promotions. The Company is forced to change its policy for pregnant women position by the Government due to lawsuits filed by its pregnant employees. Though the company have made several efforts to improve the working conditions of its employees, but it is not able to up surge the satisfaction level among employees. So we can Wal-Mart doesnt value the precious assets of the company i.e employees. 3. Wal-Mart does follow CSR model to fulfil diverse responsibility of the society. Basically the CSR model divided corporate social responsibility into four parts. They are Philanthropic responsibilities, Economic responsibilities, ethical responsibilities and legal responsibilities. Philanthropic responsibilities are the humanitarian responsibilities of the companies towards its community. Wal-Mart has been generously investing time and money for the welfare of the local communities for many years (Kampf, 2007) It had contributed 11 non-profit organizations by donating certain percentage of its profits. It is also providing scholarships to students for availing higher education in U S. Wal-Mart is able to fulfil its economic responsibilities by providing high quality products at low prices to its consumers. Ethics are basically concerned with what is right and wrong. And so we can say they are basically the principles of the company, which need to be fulfilled. In case of Wal-Mart, it has failed to fulfil its ethical responsibilities because numerous unethical activities such are child labor, gender discrimination, wage theft etc. are carried out by the company. It has affected the credibility of the firm to a large extent. So it becomes essential for the firm to restrict such unethical activities in the firm by taking several actions. Wal-Mart does comply with the legal restrictions imposed by the local government and there by fulfil its legal responsibilities. From diverse researches, we found that Wal-Mart is ignoring its social responsibilities towards several communities. For example, Wal-Mart sells its products at low costs compare to small merchants. Because of it, these merchants are also forced to sell their products either at lower profit or no profits. So it is essential for the firm, to revise its pricing policies for fulfilling its responsibilities towards such communities. Apart from it, traffic congestion is quite common near Wal-Mart stores. So it is essential for the firm to take actions to reduce traffic problems near its stores. This can be done by appointing man force for managing the traffic near the stores. Wal-Mart has some responsibilities towards the environment and so it should make efforts to reduce pollution in the environment. Through research, we have found that nowadays Wal-Mart have adopted no waste policy and have encouraged their consumer to re-use the poly bags and bottle by charging extra. This is an appre ciable effort by Wal-Mart. 4. Mitchell et als (1997) have discussed the three key variables or attributes of stakeholders. They are power, legitimacy and urgency. Power designates the extent to which stakeholder can influence the decisions of the firm. Usually power of any company can be obtained by materialistic or normative means. Legitimacy indicates the firms relations with the stakeholders. It indicates that the actions of the entity are appropriate according to the standards, principles or norms followed by the firm. Urgency is referred as the tenacity. It indicates the degree to which stakeholder claims are required immediate actions. It depends upon the time factor and stakeholder relationships with the company. By considering the above three variable such as power, legitimacy and urgency, it is possible for firms to identify which stakeholders that should be given more importance. Basically, Wal-Mart does make use of the above variables to identify different types of stakeholders of the firm. There are seven different types of stakeholders, they are Dormant stakeholders, Dominant stakeholders, Demanding stakeholders, Dangerous stakeholders, Discretionary stakeholders, Definitive stakeholders and dependent stakeholders. After analysing different types of stakeholders, stakeholders are further analysed into a latent, expectant and high categories on the basis of priorities. Latent stakeholders are given least importance in the management of the firm. Expectant stakeholders are given moderate priority by the management of the firm. Lastly, high stakeholders are given the highest priorities by the firm (The World Bank,2015). Diverse decisions of Wal-Mart is influenced by its stakeholders. Diverse Stakeholders of Wal-Mart are investors, suppliers, consumers and employers. Among them investors of the company is given the highest priority by the management of Wal-Mart. The main reason behind it is that without investors, it is impossible for the firm to carry out its business. They are interested in maximizing profits and so Wal-Mart make efforts to up surge the overall revenues of the firm. Consumers and employees are considered as the expectant stakeholders of the firm. Consumer needs of Wal-Mart is usually satisfied by providing high quality products and services at low prices. In case of employees, satisfaction level among the employees is increased through motivation, encouragement, promotions, etc. Apart from it, employees work efficiency is increased by giving proper training. Above all, it provides job security to encourage their employees. 5. It is quite essential for the company like Wal-Mart to be ethical in its communication and practice. Ethics are basically the principle or norms formed by the firm to carry out its business activities in an ethical manner. Firms usually provide training to their employees to maintain an ethical behavior in an organization. In case of Wal-Mart, it has been in involved in numerous unethical activities such as child labor, gender discrimination, wage theft. In addition to it, it discourages its employees by forcing them to work in poor working conditions. Even age group discrimination is also found in Wal-Mart. Many employees of Wal-Mart has sent lawsuits to the company for such unethical activities. It is also criticized by the media for its unethical activities. Even today, the company is male-dominant and promotions are considering gender and age group discrimination. It doesnt ensure the safety of its employees. For example, in case of fire accidents in Bangladesh, instead of hel ping and compensating the relatives of dead employees, firm had back out from its responsibilities by announcing it as unauthorized brand. It was found that about 111 people were killed in that incident due to the negligence of the firm. Above all, Wal-Mart has also failed to fulfil its responsibilities towards small communities. It is essential for Wal-Mart to grow as an ethical company in future by fulfilling its responsibilities towards the consumers, employees and the society at large. It should make efforts to restrict child labor at its developing countries units. It should also try to up surge the satisfaction level among employees by providing proper training and providing better working conditions. Apart from it, it should try to reduce corruption, gender and age discrimination in the company. It should also take some actions to empower womens position in their company. It should try to maintain equality in the firm. It should also try to fulfil its responsibility towards the society by providing scholarships and donations to the non-profit organizations. It can also maintain health relations with its stakeholders through social media and mobile applications like whtsapp, snapchat etc. Consumers should be a priority for Wal-Mart and so firm should check the quality of its products before selling it. It should also revise its pricing policies for benefitting small communities. Last but not the least, firm should also make effort to increase the security of its employees ( Lazonick, William Sullivan Lazonick,2010). References Corporate.walmart.com. (2016). The population as of 2011 was totaled to 608,453. The majority of this population consisted of people between the ages of 15 and 44 years old. Kent County consist of mostly white persons at 83. 8%. The next larges group consists of African Americans at 10. 3% and Hispanics at 9. 9%. The median household income is $50,801, with 14. 8% of the population being listed below poverty level. The unemployment rate is at 8. 52% (2011, US Census Bureau). It is reported by adults that 13. 6% have not accessed healthcare within the past 12 months. 10. % of adults reported they have no healthcare coverage. It was also discovered that the county only has 29% of what is needed in the dental care community(2011, Michigan Department of Community Health). The second assessment piece is labeled cultural assessment. Once again this was information I collected on a County level. In Kent County there are slightly more females than males, 51% versus 49% respectively. The populations consists predominately of white Christians, while the subgroup is Roman Catholics (2011, Kent County Health Department). We will write a custom essay sample on Hat Task or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Obesity was noted to be on the rise due to lack of physical activity and inadequate fruit and vegetable consumption. More specifically 31. 3% of adults are obese, and Michigan as a whole is the 5th most obese state in the US. 19. 7% of adults reported adequate physical activity with 23. 6% stating they lived a sedentary lifestyle within the past month, and 17. 8% report they consume fruits and vegetables at least 5 times a day (2011, Michigan Department of Health). African Americans voiced distrust among healthcare providers however they did support and agree for a universal healthcare system. Hispanics voiced concern for the lack of translation services due to language barriers and issues surrounding documented legal status and the difficulty this poses to accessing healthcare (2009, Michigan Department of Health). I discovered that in the area there are over 50 parks with various indoor and outdoor activities for all to enjoy. The third assessment piece is entitled neighborhood and community safety. This information was obtained from local agencies. I noted the Health Department and local hospitals are very involved in providing health services, education, and discussions for the community free of charge. The air quality for Kent County is considered poor. We have had at least 7 air pollution days per year due to fine particulate matter and ozone. The water quality in the last 5 years has been excellent. 0. 09% of public water supplies exceeded contamination levels during this time frame (2011, Kent County Health Department). The wild life in the area can cause a potential for disease, and the many surrounding lakes, rivers and streams can cause a potential for drowning. Due to the location of Kent County we risk potential severe weather events. The violent crime rate in the area was 0. 4% significantly lower than the national average. It was also noted that the local police and fire response is at or exceeds standards (2013, Kent County Sheriffs Department). The fourth assessment piece is the disaster assessment and planning status. This information was gathered on a City and County level. The disaster command is headed by the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security loca ted in Grand Rapids. They included the requirements of National Response Plan and NIMS. I discovered they are following all federal regulations by the Department of Homeland Security. 3 County, and other regional collaborations were noted in the planning. The Kent County area is at risk most for these natural disasters; severe winter weather, thunderstorms, tornados, riverine flood, and urban flood. The are is at risk most for these other disasters; electrical failures, communication failure, intentional acts, transportation accidents, and hazardous material. The city and county provide public education through CERT classes, brochures, and coordination with school districts to relay safety information at a young age (2011, Kent County Health Department). From the information obtained above I believe that Kent County Michigan is an overall healthy community. Areas for improvement would be to increase the access to dental care and healthcare for at risk and poor underserved families, to decrease the prevalence of obesity and ensure access to healthful foods, and to establish a plan to deal with language barriers for other populations living within West Michigan. This information that I have obtained and explained above is listed below in my community genogram. The genogram highlights the pertinent information in an easy to view graph with each assessment topic listed. It discusses once again the community as a whole from population and economic status, to the cultural assessment, to the neighborhood and community safety to lastly disaster assessment and planning. It provides an overview of the community as a whole, strengths and weaknesses. The community assessment is how I feel the community is and the areas that are at risk or I feel can be improved upon. Gore vs Bush on Education essays
Gore vs Bush on Education essays Vice-President Al Gore and Governor George W. Bush are both running for president, and they both have very strong views on education in the United States. Their positions on education are very different, but they both offer some good plans on reforming education. The main differences are seen in the topics of college, testing of students and the voucher program, teacher qualification, and character and discipline issues. Vice-President Gore and Governor Bush have different plans on how to boost early education and how to hold schools accountable for the success of students, but it is evident that they both feel that these issues need to be addressed firmly. Governor Bush feels that college students will succeed more easily with advanced science and mathematical knowledge. He says that he proposes a $1000 increase in individual Pell Grants to encourage high school students to take advanced college preparation courses in both subjects. Bush stated that, Theres no reason for us to be next to last in the world in math, and theres no reason for us to be last in physics. Gore too believes in the importance of college, but doesnt say math and science are the key elements to attending college. He notes that money is what keeps kids away from college. He proposes to make it easier for parents to save for their childrens college tuition with tax-free and inflation free savings, the National Tuition Savings program. Gore wants to make two years of college free with more student loans with lower costs, and expanding Pell Grants. Gore says he believes that in the knowledge- based economy of the 21st Century; everyone who is willing to work for it must have the chance to go to college. George W. Bush pretty much feels that existing teachers that are no longer qualified to teach effectively should simply be trained further, and he proposes to give the states money to do ...

Proper Way for a Democracy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
Proper Way for a Democracy - Essay Example d, p.1). Freedom, liberties, human right protection, fair elections etc are some of the basic elements of a democratic system. However, in many of the so-called democratic countries, human right violations are taking place continuously. Pakistan is the best examples for this. Malala, a teenage girl from Pakistan is currently struggling to save her life. Pak Taliban or Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the fundamental Muslim group shot her because of her activities to encourage teenage girls to acquire education. ââ¬Å"Malala was attacked by Taliban gunmen on October 9 when she was on her way from school. The TTP said that they will target her again if she survives because she was a ââ¬Å"secular-minded ladyâ⬠â⬠(Web Desk, 2012). Pakistan is a democratic country on papers, but in practice, none of the democratic principles observed in Pakistan. Even the elected government is only a toy government in the hands of Pak military. Pak military on the other hand gets immense supp ort from the fundamental groups and hence they will not act against the will of the fundamentalists. In Pakistan, democratic institutions such as judiciary, executive and parliament often clash each other. For example, the removal of Pak Supreme court judge by the former Pakistan president Pervez Musharaf has created lot of political problems in Pakistan. According to Tomuschat (2008), ââ¬Å"An independent judiciary prospers only in countries where democracy, human rights and in particular a free press, set a general framework stabilizing the rule of lawâ⬠(p.308). In short, the existing political system in Pakistan is incapable of protecting human rights because of the lack of cooperation between different institutions in the... This paper stresses that at present America is conducting war on terror in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq with the help of UK like countries. Moreover, UK and US like democratic countries are supporting the agitations against the autocratic governments in all parts of the world. Democracy and human rights are two sides of the same coin. In other words, human right protection is one of the major objectives of any democratic government. However, the morality of interfering in other states, for the protection of human rights is often questioned, by sociologists and philosophers. The problems with the humanitarian intervention by superpower is that they interfere only in their enemy countries. They will keep silence if the culprit is their supporting country. For example, international community strongly condemned the human right violations taking place in Middle East. Israel is keeping no ethics or morality in their actions in Middle East. However, neither UK nor America seems to be int erested in blaming Israel or interfering in these matters. Humanitarian laws and international laws should be applicable to all. No country, under any circumstances shall able to escape from such laws and restrictions. This report makes a conclusion that humanitarian interventions can be justified in some cases only. Stronger powers often justify their actions in other countries in terms of humanitarian intervention. Once they entered another country, they also do the same thing or humanitarian violation. UK like democratic countries should stay away from interfering in the internal matters of other countries in the name of humanitarian intervention. Only after getting the consent from UN like global bodies, interventions should be done.
